Short Presentation

I graduated from the University of Navarra Medical School in 2011 and completed my 4-year Hematology and Hemotherapy training at the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge/ Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Barcelona, Spain. Under the mentorship of Dr. Sureda and Dr. Gonzalez Barca, during my residency training I had the opportunity to dive into clinical research focusing in the area of aggressive lymphoma, multiple myeloma and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. In addition, I was able to present the results of my research at national and international meetings and participate in international educational workshops. At the end of my hematology training, I was offered a position as a Junior Consultant in the Clinical Hematology Department at the Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Barcelona, Spain, where I gained experience as a clinical hematologist. Having had the opportunity of start my career as Hematologist in the ICO, a center with high capacity and quality of care, together with the encouragement and permanent support of Dr. Sureda, marked the start of my passion for allogeneic stem cell transplant and cell therapy.

To further improve my skillset and build an independent career in allogeneic stem cell transplant clinics and research, I pursued further training opportunities abroad being fortunate to be selected by the University of Toronto as clinical fellow at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in September 2017. Since then, I have had the privilege to work with a multidisciplinary team composed by hematology clinicians, immunologist, transplant coordinators, nurse’s practitioners and biostatisticians.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Kumar, the current Head of the Malignant Hematology Program, I have been involved in some retrospective and prospective clinical studies (listed below). In addition, I have had the opportunity to present my work at international meetings such as EBMT meeting in 2018, ASH meeting in 2018, TCT tandem meeting in 2019, and in the EBMT meeting in 2019. The general knowledge and practical experience gained from the expertise as clinicians and scientists of the staff that compose the Hans Messner Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant Team during the ongoing clinical fellowship, the well-established resources and infrastructure at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the invaluable mentorship and supervision of Dr. Kumar, has exponentially increased my passion for allogeneic stem cell transplant and cell therapy and my interest in clinical and translational research and drug development.
